Social Justice and Community Partnerships

As a leading force in northern social justice, the Union of Northen Workers meets its responsibilities for  improving northern society as a whole.  Working with our social justice partners, governments and non-government organizations, the UNW makes major contributions to projects and social movements.

Over the years, the UNW headquarters and locals have made major cash and volunteer contributions to territorial and community projects.  The UNW is a major partner in the annual United Way NWT campaign.

The UNW was the first community partner to make a donation to the proposed Avens seniors care facility. Seniors Society President Bill Braden, Barb Bromley, the UNW's North Slave Regional Vice President Chris Potyok, 1st Vice President Gayla Thunstrom and President Todd Parsons joined in making the $50,000 donation to the building fund.

Pledges from Locals and Members raised $10,000 to fight the Ebola crisis in West Africa.  Doctors Without Borders sent a note of thanks to the UNW for this donation.
